Multiple Scholarship Opportunities are and have been available to eligible participants in the Boys of Summer Cup through generous donations by multiple people in the community who are long time friends of the BOSC.

Dan Grider Sr., 1996 SDGA Senior Champion, and long-time friend and mentor to members and friends of the Boys of Summer has graciously awarded a $500 scholarship to one competitor to encourage participation in the Boys of Summer Cup. Recipient of the scholarship is determined by drawing upon completion of the first 18 holes of play. To be eligible for the scholarship, participants must be enrolled full-time at an accredited university or college. Mr. Grider gives out the inaugural Dan Grider Sr. Scholarship.

The Shannon Jacobson Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the life and legacy of Shannon Jacobson, a beloved member of the Boys of Summer Cup family whose presence helped define the spirit of the event for more than a decade. Shannon was the heartbeat of BOSC tournament day—arriving before sunrise each year to run registration, organize applications and donations, manage merchandise and scorecards, explain local rules, and ensure every participant felt welcomed. Her warm smile, tireless work ethic, and simple encouragement to each golfer—“Play Well”—embodied everything BOSC strives to represent: community, generosity, and joy. She made an enormous undertaking look effortless, and her impact was felt by every player who passed through the registration table.
Shannon passed away on July 11, 2022, after a courageous and determined battle with cancer. Her loss was deeply felt across the BOSC community and beyond. In her honor, the Shannon Jacobson Registration Area was named in perpetuity, and this scholarship was established to carry forward her spirit of service, kindness, and quiet leadership. Awarded annually to one BOSC participant, the Shannon Jacobson Memorial Scholarship recognizes an individual who reflects the values Shannon lived by—selflessness, thoughtfulness, and a love for bringing people together. Through this scholarship, Shannon’s legacy continues to shape BOSC and support the next generation, just as she supported so many during her life.

Mr. Scarborough began a friendship with several BOSC members who lived in Austin Texas around 2010 and loved the tournament concept. He began an annual pilgrimage to Sioux Falls to support the event and shortly after began his scholarship which he continued until his passing. He was a mentor and friend to many and helped spread his love through the game of golf. Rest in peace friend. See you on the back 9.
